Jennifer Eddington is no stranger to Unity Health. Having served with the organization for decades, she has spent her career dedicated to the mission of the healthcare system: to improve the quality of health and well-being of the communities it serves through compassionate care.

In August of 2023, Eddington experienced firsthand how Unity Health’s compassionate care would change her life. Experiencing her own health complications, she sought the counsel of friend and co-worker Hannah White, APRN, of Unity Health – Newport, who suggested a diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound. After thorough examination and consultations, one small spot was found and determined to be cancerous.

Following the initial discovery, Eddington underwent two surgeries to remove the cancer. Since early December, she has embarked on the journey of treatment through chemotherapy and radiation to fight her breast cancer.

Eddington is a Newport native and is grateful to receive comprehensive and convenient care, close to home, at The Pyeatt Family Cancer Center in Searcy. Having treatment nearby has saved her from traveling to Little Rock or Memphis. Here, her Unity Health Oncology team provides the utmost care, while also providing kindness, expertise, and comfort. She says the team gives her confidence amid uncertainty, quickly and willingly answering any of her questions, especially her nurse, Leslie Ross.

“They know what they are doing, and they are excellent at it,” she said. “They will pray with you, laugh with you, and always greet you with readiness for what is ahead. They are good people from start to finish.”

Through this process, Eddington shares, “I think I have grown tremendously in my faith, and my love for others.” She tells that when she decided to share her story, she wanted to reach just one person, knowing it would be worth it to encourage others to consider their breast health.

The very day she posted about her cancer, a friend texted and said, “I’m your one.” She, too, had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Eddington’s love for God and commitment to her faith has helped, “grow her through the process,” she says. She wants her grandchildren to witness her experience as a testament, “that God can do anything.”

Thanks to her family, friends, faith and care through Unity Health Oncology, Jennifer Eddington knows she can face her cancer without fear.
